Tips to Guarantee A Natural Radiant Custom Air Brush Spray Tan
♦ Exfoliate. Exfoliate. Exfoliate. We cannot overstress the importance of pre-session exfoliation. 24-hours prior to your appointment, clear away any dry, dead skin cells with a pH balancing scrub. We recommend Amber Sun exfoliating scrub. This process gives your skin the fuel needed for beautiful long lasting color.
♦ Avoid using bar soaps, high pH shower products, or shower moisturizers. These products can neutralize the DHA bronzing reaction.
♦ Any waxing/shaving or manicure/pedicure should be completed 24-hours prior. Remember this by 3 easy words … SHOWER, SHAVE, EXFOLIATE.
DAY OF SESSION
♦ Don’t Create Sunless Barriers. You do not want to apply anything to the skin that may act as a barrier between the sunless solution and the skin. Deep penetration is key to beautiful lasting color. Do not apply lotions, creams, or perfumes prior to sessions. Use deodorant sparingly.
♦ Wear dark, loose fitting clothing. Tight clothing can rub off or smear bronzers, especially around the knees, elbows and waist.
MAINTENANCE
♦ Avoid Sweating! Avoid activities that may cause you to sweat excessively and possibly cause streaking of the cosmetic bronzers. Use the air conditioning in your car. Remember that your skin has just been tinted with a water soluble solution.
♦ Avoid Water, Pools & Spas! You must avoid water entirely for at least 6-hours or you will deactivate DHA development and / or cause streaking. Avoid chemically treated pools and spas for at least 24-hours to prevent color from prematurely fading.
♦ Wait to Shower! For maximum results, wait at least 6-hours before showering or bathing. Only warm water rinse for the first 24-hours after your session to avoid fading and stripping of your instant color. After 24-hours you may shower using a mild pH balancing shower gel. We recommend Amber Sun Hydrating Body Wash as your daily shower product. It is designed to hydrate, moisturize and nourish while maintaining the proper pH levels for your skin while protecting your tan.
♦ Proper cleansing ensures even fading and the longest lasting, most natural looking results. Do not exfoliate. Use just your hands to wash, No washcloth or loofah. Pat skin dry with a towel or air dry.
♦ Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize. Stay extremely moisturized, we recommend Amber Sun Pro-long Moisturizer. This lotion is specifically designed to keep your tan healthy and your skin moisturized while adding a refreshing and renewing glow each day to your sunless color. It is formulated to assist your color in fading gradually and evenly.
♦ Depending on your personal activities and skin type, your tan will last approximately 7-10 days. With follow up applications you can maintain your Radiant color indefinitely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Custom Air Brush Spray Tanning
What should I expect during my spray tanning session?
You will meet with one of our spray tan technicians. Together, you’ll discuss and decide on a spray tan level perfectly suited for your skin type and tanning goals as well as any pre and / or post treatment options. You may tan with no tan lines or what you feel comfortable wearing, swimwear or underclothing. It takes approximately 5-10 minutes for the spray tan application. Your color will develop within 6-24 hours.
How long will my spray tan last?
DHA solutions take about 16-hours to fully develop. You will receive the best results if you can avoid bathing until the day after your sunless session. If you have to bathe, you must wait a minimum of 6-hours after the application. If showering prior to the 16-hour post application recommendation, a simple rinse with water only, is best. Soap destroys DHA. Delayed bathing allows the DHA bronzer sufficient time to complete its reaction with the amino acids (proteins) within the skin.
NOTE: It is important to know that the instant/cosmetic bronzers is the color that is immediately visible during the session and will wash off during the first shower, revealing the DHA bronze tan beneath. It is not your tan washing down the drain.
Why is keeping skin moisturized essential to maintain a Radiant looking tan?
It is important to keep skin moisturized after sunless tanning as dry, flaky skin will slough off faster and color will fade sooner. You basically want to slow down your body’s natural exfoliation process. Sunless tan-extending products with a light self-tanning bronzer, like Norvell® Amber Sun™ Pro-long™, help hydrate skin and maintain even, natural-looking color longer by providing subtle bronzers
Will I turn orange?
Our solution is one of the highest grade products available today with a superior reputation in the industry. Quality solution and equipment along with our highly trained technicians ensures radiant just off the beach color. An orange color comes mostly from an inferior quality DHA product, even today in certain brands of self tanning lotions and automated spray tanning booths.
Will the solution stain my hair?
No, most people will not see any affect on the color of their hair. Customers with light blonde, gray or platinum hair may see some discoloration from the cosmetic bronzers initially; however, this color will wash out with the first rinse after the session. If you have light colored hair we will cover your hair with a hair cap prior to you spray tan session.
Does it have an offensive odor?
Quality products have a much better smell if any than lesser quality products. Occasionally but rare some clients may develop a mild spray tanning scent which is eliminated after the first post tan rinse.
How does spray tanning work?
DHA the self tanning ingredient reacts with the proteins in the skin and oxidizes with the oxygen in the air giving your skin a flawless natural glow.
What is the difference between being spray tanned and using sunless tanning products at home?
With all the care and precautions it is still difficult to get a flawless tan at home. The even consistency and natural look of a turbo powered spray tan is unsurpassed by any other method.
Is Spray tanning safe?
Yes, the active ingredient in self tanning products is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years and was listed with the FDA in 1973. It is declared safe and suitable for use in cosmetics and used to color the skin. DHA is derived from glycerin (vegetable origin) which is a commonly used cosmetic and food ingredient. DHA is not absorbed into the body and poses no possibility of toxicity.
Can I Spray Tan if I’m pregnant?
Yes, DHA only penetrates the outermost skin layers and has been used as a cosmetic ingredient since 1960. However, if you are still concerned you should consult your physician first.
Can I Spray Tan if I normally can’t get very tan naturally?
Yes, sunless spray tanning does not require the melanocytes to achieve a tan. DHA the self tanning ingredient reacts with the proteins in the skin and oxidizes with the oxygen in the air giving the skin a golden tan.
Does sunless tanning give me sun protection like a natural tan?
No. Your skin is not protected and will burn. You will still need to apply SPF lotion when in the sun as you would with your natural skin color.
